Learn the Wim Hof Method in Context with Freediving

The Wim Hof method is quite basic but effective, which is based on three pillars: Breathing, Cold therapy, and Commitment. The combination of these three components makes the Wim Hof Method uniquely strong.

Euphoria, lightheadedness, and a little tingling around the arms and legs are the most ordinary sensations a person may expect. Some people may also notice various colors or patterns behind their eyelids, and hear a ringing noise in their ears.

Steps to Implement the Wim Hof Method

The breathing techniques of WHM are quick and straightforward, simply obey the instructions below. It is recommended that you practice while your stomach is empty, just after waking up, or before having a meal.

Always keep in mind that breathing with WHM may result in the reduction of consciousness in some rare scenarios.

  • Think of a posture for meditation, this could either be sitting or lying down, whatever is convenient as according to you. Without feeling any stiffness, be sure you are able to stretch your lungs easily.

  • Slowly shut your eyes and try clearing the mind of any type of stress. Connect with your breath, inhale deeply with your nose or mouth and exhale calmly through the mouth. Inhale entirely through the stomach, and then let go without force. Repeat this in quick intervals 20 to 30 times.

  • Inhale one more time, as deep as you can, after the previous exhalation. Let the air out and stop breathing. Hold until you feel the first urge to breathe.

  • The final step includes drawing one big breath to fill your lungs as you get the need to breathe again. Feel your expanding belly and chest. Keep your breath for about 15 seconds while you are at maximum power, then let go. That completes the number one round. This loop, without an interval, can be repeated 2-4 times.
